Del Forte Denim is designed for the eco-chic woman who is transforming the face of fashion. Made in the USA with 100 percent organic cotton, Del Forte's premium denim apparel contributes to a growing fashion trend that interprets luxury as a combination of exquisite beauty and ethical production.
Founded in May 2005 by fashion designer Tierra Del Forte, the San Francisco-based company captures Tierra's creative passion to design well-crafted garments from organic fabrics. Committed to environmental stewardship, Tierra believes that the premium denim market needs designs that are both eco-friendly and supremely stylish.
Ethical issues addressed:
Most denim production relies on conventional (non-organic) cotton: the most heavily sprayed agricultural crop in the world, accounting for 25 percent of global insecticide use. In contrast, Del Forte Denim is made with 100 percent organically grown cotton, which is free of pesticides, insecticides and herbicides. This high-quality, long staple cotton is grown in California and Texas and is certified by Quality Assurance Int (CA) and The Texas Dept of Agriculture (TX).
Extending her commitment to organic denim, Tierra has partnered with The Sustainable Cotton Project (SCP). Since 1994, the SCP has been connecting farmers, manufacturers and consumers to pioneer markets for certified organic and sustainably grown cotton. A portion of Del Forte Denim's proceeds will go to support The SCP.
In addition, Del Forte Denim's product line is made entirely in the US, a rarity even in the eco-fashion industry, which relies mostly on overseas production. The cotton is grown in California and Texas, the fabric is milled in North Carolina, and the garments are sewn and finished in Los Angeles and El Paso. Keeping the entire production process in the US not only cuts carbon emissions by reducing the use of fossil fuels, it also ensures that Del Forte Denim's products are sweatshop free.
